Hi Arbaaz, I really liked how you incorporated Romanticism from different countries. I’m mostly familiar with French Romanticism, so I don’t know much about the German or English movements. It’s super interesting!

A really interesting discussion. I wonder how Romanticism shows up in novels such as Count of Monte Cristo or Les Miserables. What about those novels makes them Romantic? If a novel isn't "Romantic" what is it? If we want our stories to be "Romantic" what should we emphasize and de-emphasize. It sounds like the answer to the latter would be the metaphysical, the inexplicable. But I don't think that is all there is to it. Anyway, definitely got me thinking. TY.

The romantic movement was pretty much a literary and artistic movement so this question can clearly be answered when you come across such writing or writing influenced by the romantics. Take Frankenstein for example: it is definitely a romantic novel. It has ideas about empirical evidence vs intuition, it has a very interesting relationship with science, and in general it challenges the ideas we have of the unknown. I have written a whole review and 2 essays on that novel if you want to explore that btw
