I used to be the kind of reader who strictly read one book at a time. But recently, I’ve realized that reading one book at a time isn’t worth the hassle.
Yep, I'm with you - usually 4 or 5 on the go, but mainly non-fiction. I can't usually have more than 1 fiction at a time, but overall anyway, 80% of what I read is non-fiction.
Yes! I always have two or three on the go. And I just let myself go down rabbit holes without a twinge of guilt.
If the post-apoc book I just finished makes me want more, I dive into the next in a series or another author’s book in the same subgenre. This was my September. One right after another. Does that mean I leave one or two others behind for a bit on the nightstand or Kindle? Yes. They’ll be there when I finish surviving an EMP and all the chaos human’s can bring on each other!
I completely agree with you and I read more than 2/3 books at a time. And write regularly on books the moves me. You may check my archive and read some and let me know how you feel about what I wrote.
I used to read one book at a time and have moved to multiple at once as well! Loved reading your post—I've got one on something similar in my drafts too and it's great to know other people have had a similar experience. :)
Hahaha I’m itching to and would love to! I’m attempting to have a somewhat consistent schedule, or I would release all the book reviews I have lined up. :)
Great post! I always juggle multiple books at the same time. According to my StoryGraph I'm currently reading 11 books simultaneously ;) I switch between them depending on my mood and I try not to pressure myself into sticking to one. It's nice to have a choice every day :)
Whoah! 11?!? That is too much even for me! I salute you on your dedication 🫡thanks for reading my article by the way. May i ask how how you found it? I am still a bit confused about the algorithm of substack 😂
Okay first of all, you are FAST! You read the whole thing that quickly? Thanks a lot for the support!
Also, its a habit i’ve actually tried to form over time. It was a very intentional decision by me. But its great that you got it naturally! I wouldn’t try to kick it honestly. As i’ve said in the article itself, just read whatever whenever. I know it can be anxious to have so many books currently running but i think we need to rethink our way of tracking books and how we read.
The problem comes in when (like me) you borrow 3 books from the library, start them all simultaneously, renew them 2 or 3 times, then take them back unfinished because you feel a little weird renewing a fourth time. Then you take out 3 different ones. Same story. Then you reborrow the first ones you didn't get to finish. Like a projessional juggler, I probably have a few in the air at any one time. It's this Substack thing. It takes all your reading time if you let it.

I’ve usually got a couple on the go. I’m a bit of a mood reader so I swap around depending on how I’m feeling 😊
Hi Arbaaz,

Thanks, and stay connected.

PUBLISH THE DRAFT! Would love to read your thoughts as well!

Saaaaame! I also can’t stop writing for some reason 😂
That’s a great problem to have! :p
True!
Currently have three on the go!!
Nice! Which ones?
Frankenstein
Killers countdown by Wendy H Jones
And a book that isn’t even being published until May next year! Six Wild Crowns
Awesome! I’m noticing a lot more people are reading frankenstein this october. I just might reread that one. I can then do a analysis of it as well.
Also, how did you get a copy of the one that isn’t released? Is it an arc? And if so how did you acquire it?
Perks of my job working for Waterstones! :)
Is that a publication?
No, I work at the Book Hub
I am afraid I don’t know what that is 😅

It showed up in my feed - I think it was restacked by Sanford :)
Yeah, 11 is a lot, but some of them are study- and work-related, so they don't count ;)
Still, i would find it hard to focus on fun reading if i had to juggle that many books at once. You are a soldier 🫡😂
I’m always reading at least 3 books at a time haha. It’s a habit I’ve tried but failed to kick!
